Are Harmonia axyridis common in your neck of the woods? Do you know if there is a French 'common' name for it? Mike Majerus labelled it 'harlequin ladybird' but there is already a ladybird commonly called that in France - allegedly.....

Looks wet wherever your ladybird came from!

And another apology for the delay - to go with the one I've already written to you this morning. I really MUST start looking at the `messages' box more often (just never expect anyone to write to me !!).

I've no idea what this chappie might be called here - and certainly no-one to ask. I can well imagine they'd say the equivalent of `ladybird' unless they knew otherwise.

It's the only one I've ever seen, by the way. I've been keeping a look-out since this one appeared, but nothing more.

Your comment about it being wet here is interesting. It was dry that day; I found it in the house (where it rarely rains) and I'm quite sure he shines like that all the time.

I'd love to suggest that he's glossed himself up while polishing off the other 14 spots - but that might be a bit too flippant (hangs head and hopes the count was right this time)
