Carsington Water is a a relatively new reservoir, unusual in that the catchment is on limestone (the reservoir is build on a thin stratum of sandstone) and therefore the water is much more mineral rich, closer to neutral pH and thus very attractive to microorganisms, fish and birds!

Nice pic, gives the flavour of the place. It's been a few years since I visited. I think they have water voles there as well. Oh and that 1 tonne Kugel Stone granite ball at the visitor centre that revolves on the film of water, quite neat.
