I was pleased to be able to follow the hatching of the sawfly eggs - when they were laid I tied pieces of cotton to the stalks to mark the leaves.
Naturally when they first hatched they were tiny less than 2mm but by 9th May some were 2.3cm, after that I didn't measure them again I am afraid - or I can't find them in my notes.
The hundreds of larvae soon stripped the leaves down to the veins. I noticed more egg laying and hatching through out the summer.
