Lovely reflection in the lake. Is Madagascar still volcanic island or are they all extinct now?

There are no active volcanoes on Madagascar.

The volcano at Tritriva exploded in the 1450s forming the lake which is the shape of Madagascar. Local myths and taboos have grown up around this mysterious lake. 1460 two lovers, whose marriage was forbidden by their parents, made the decision of drowning themselves in this lake. After drowning themselves, they were reincarnated into a living shape: in the form of two very close growing trees next to the lake. Their branches were so intertwined that they eventually formed a single tree which is said to leak blood if cut. In 1943 a Chinese man rowed across the lake to see the trees and to check whether indeed they do leak blood. Whilst he was rowing back his boat capsized and he drowned and to this day his body has never been found.

It has a 'bottomless' look to it, because it's dark and still - I suppose that volcanic lakes are usually pretty deep?

I think this one is around 180m deep. People are advised not to swim there because despite the usual sunny conditions the water just below the surface is cold and can easily lead to cramp. Nevertheless you do get people diving in from the cliffs surrounding the lake.
