Lovely things - the smallest birds in UK - in other parts of Europe also? Or are there smaller ones? Very difficult to get a good picture of unless you have top-grade lenses, a hide and a lot of patience! They are so active and mainly seen in winter when there's no light. Their more common relative, the goldcrest, turns up often in my garden but never seems to stay still - rather like a hummingbird!

Firecrests and goldcrests are also the smallest birds in Holland. Both are amazingly 8.5 -9cm tall and they only weigh 5 grammes - can you imagine!
