Not wanting to be parochial but I don't recall seeing these in any great number in UK ... are they seen at this density in UK? I'm an inlander so may just have missed them at this time of year .....

I have never seen them around the costal areas of South Cumbria either - unless its because Im only there during the summer these days and they look different that time of year?
