When the Flatid Leaf Bugs are in this nymph stage they excrete this white punky wax like substance. Its a protection mechanism against birds. Amazing to think that they change into the bright pink adult

Yes, a real difference between nymphs and imagines. The nymphs are rather like mealy-bugs - protection the same principal? Nice pics, thanks.

I didn't realise that these were the same creatures as your other gallery submission - it's hard to imagine. At both stages they are very attractive.
