These are trees that people have underplanted, a bit like an extension to their gardens, done in their own tastes.

An interesting little mixture there ... much nicer than bare soil or concrete. It also makes people feel more attached to their neighbourhood ....

The trees that aren't under planted look so bare in comparison, and you tend to see rubish in its place. People must have some standards where they put their rubbish and don't like to ruin what looks nice!
