Description: The fort was constructed at the same time as the Noordzeekanaal (The river Ij was widened and converted in to a canal for easier access to Amsterdam from the sea and was finished in 1876). It was to defend the locks in Ijmuiden and the canal and part of the whole defense of Amsterdam. Ijmuiden 07-06-2012
