Unknown Thistle/Knapweed on Spanish Coast
Hola,
These thistle/knapweed flowers were growing in the Aixorta Mountains behind Guadalest in Costa Blanca, Spain, early April this year.

They were very low-growing, 5 to 10cm high with flowers at least 4cm diam. I think they are Centarea but cannot find the species after looking in several books and web sites.
An ID would be most welcome
M.

From looking in my books the closest I can find is Centaurea aegialophila, but that doesn't look quite right. You could try googling the Centaurea family as they do look similar.

Thanks Guy,
I have it in my book, without an illustration. I will pursue on Google. I was also thinking of contacting a Nature Reserve Administration Centre in the area.
