What is happening here?
What is happeninig to my Azalea leaves? These strange growths have appeared over the last few weeks. It flowered beautifully in the spring and nothing has caused me concern before.

Thanks Paul - they don't look like any Gall I have seen before, I didn't even concider it. I am just off to remove the offending leaves.

No, I suspect that most entomologists wouldn't call them galls but in horticulture any lump on a plant is a "gall" .... Fortunately the condition doesn't sound life-threatening - let us know how the patient gets on!

Oh dear! It isn't good news. About 1/3 of the plant has died and there is no fresh foliage growth, or green inside the stem when I scratch it with my nail. The rest of the plant looks pretty good (touch wood) with flower buds forming. I think I delayed too long last year when I noticed the growth of the galls before removing them. First sign of any more and I shall get rid of them straight away.
