Hi Eric - it could well be Cladonia portentosa. It's lovely looking isn't it - sort of frosty  .

Thanks, Goosey. I've nothing on lichen so I googled it from your lead-in and soon got lost. However, Cladina sp, though it look like, seems to grow on the ground, whereas the photo is of an epiphyte.

I think you've probably got the right family, Goosey, but there are so many of
them looking similar. I couldn't even find if it grows on pines or not.

Anyone know what this is? Or even if you can do Xanthoria to spp?

I have a very similar looking one in the gallery as your yellow lichen, I have down as Xanthoria parietina - they could be the same type? I couldn't even hazard a guess at the silver one though.

The thalli on yours look somewhat broader, spreading and bigger generally but otherwise I wouldn't like to comment on any real difference. I had thought that the 'silver one' was a dead part of the yellow one
... but we're fairly sure it's Xanthoria!
