Awareness Weeks

I want to dedicate each week on Wild About The World to a particular species, habitat or region of the world that's associated with wildlife and the environment.

We'll change the banner at top of the website, and run lots of threads and posts, and encourage lots of photos to be posted in the gallery. We'll as list lots of relevant groups around the world so people can find out more about the subject.

In preparation for each 'Strong Week' it would be great if we could develop activities for at least a week or two in advance as a build-up to having lots of content for new visitors to view and join.

If you've got any suggestions for future a Strong Week (ideally in conjunction with a recognised international awareness week), then please post them here.

Thanks

Stu

Nice idea and some nice views - and a good choice of subject. I do just wonder whether it might not be better to do this by the month rather than the week? Maybe it's because I'm a bit lethargic but by the time I take in that it's 'Orang Week' and start to do something about it .... it will be Desman Week and I'll be even further behind ....

As a compromise, why not by the fortnight?

Oooh! Ignore my last post Can we have a dolphin week?

Every week for something would be fun, keep up Paul, there is so much out there that I will be old and gray if we do one thing each month. We could even do one thing each day

Hi Helen,

After a quick search, the only thing I can find out about Dolphin weeks is the National Whale and Dolphin Week in the UK, which was in July this year. If you can find out when it'll be in 2008 then we'll save that week and feature it next year

We'll try and extend it week by having a run up for a few weeks to try and get more groups involved posting their news, images, websites etc. Hopefully this will make the weeks more like a month, but also give lots of oportunity to raise awareness on lots of subjects throughout the year.

I am 'old and grey'! But, yes, I take your point ... just worried that a lot of good stuff will get missed ....

Sounds like a very good idea, I'll listen out for any wildlife weeks coming up.

I like this idea. The orangutan awareness week here inspired me to look up a few things about them. I hardly knew any of it - so I have learned a lot already. I posted a thread about what I have learned on the mamal forum.

http://www.wildabouttheworld.com/for....html#post2032

The orangutan toy thread bought to mind one my eldest daughter has. It was one of the first toys we bought her when we moved to Holland 15 years ago when she was 3. It was from the WWF collection, large and cost alot - but it was just so loveable. It was her favourite for years, she called it Terry, gave it a hair cut (). It still holds such special memories for all of us and I always smile to myself when I see it.
