One difference I noticed so far between the British board and this one is that when you click on 'search' you don't get the 'Find Today's Posts' option which is very handy - is there any chance of this being added in the future?

Glitch on the image views counter

The view counter for the images seems to be a bit of a random number generator! Look at the view count before clicking on the picture and again afterwards - usually the view count goes up by three, sometimes by 2 and rarely by 4 or 1! Odd ....

Dead links/absent galleries

The links on the home page to (e.g.) Birds are clickable but dead (all of them).
Whereas most topic areas have links to both corresponding gallery and forum, the plants section has no gallery and the fungi one has neither ... I think there are others ....

dead links

I've been encouraging people to join this forum but a couple have been rather put off by the dead links problem. The first thing that most people do is go to 'invertebrates' or 'birds' and then get a 'no page' error - not at all encouraging ....

I changed the links yesterday and will hopefulyl get round to building the other sections of the gallery tongith. I plan to do a lot of work on the site over the holidays, so any more ideas will be much appreciated.

I think I've mentioned all that I've seen. Being able to link to images in the gallery will be good. Have a good holiday!

One little gripe .... is it possible to change the dating system on messages &c from the US formula? I find it very disconcerting and would prefer the European ways ....

Thanks.
Another problem started yesterday. Entering on the home page I'm asked for user name &c and then not recognised .... On the other hand, I can enter the gallery or forum and am recognised! (At least I assume that being able to type this means I'm recognised?)

That seems to be cured now - well done, Stuart!
You want more work? I can't put in an avatar or personal details - nice to know where people live when you're reading them. I appreciate that there's a bit of a security problem here for 'new members' - or spammers (incidentally, you seem to have eliminated all the spammers - congratulations, what did you do? But some of us are model members so could perhaps add a little personal information?

Links from home page map

The map on the home page is very good and works finr for Oceania, N. America &c but clicking on Europe takes you to 'Eco-travel'. I don't see a way to get to a 'Europe' folder - if there is one - and, of course, the 'Eco-travel' folder concerns more than Europe - thus causing confusion ...

I've mentioned before that the thread 'Ten Best Places in Europe' is accessed via 'Africa' ... so not getting the attention that it might!

Actually looking at the list of folders/departments - there actually isn't one for Europe ....

Exclamation Spam!

Hi, being new here and it being a bit different than the sister site I haven't quite got into the swing of how things work yet. Yesterday, I reported some spam, by clicking the ! box and going from there, but today it is still on the forum. Should I have done it via a different way? Who are the moderators and is there a way of seeing who is on line?
Thanks.

Dead links

The 'user cp' on the home page is dead.

Might I mention again that there is a forum but no gallery for flowers/plants?

... and another thing ... there seems to be no 'South America' gallery. I'm sure there used to be one?

You cannot post directly into a message.

You load your picture into a gallery (you've done that okay).
You go to the picture (full screen) and below the picture is a panel labelled 'picture details' and within that is a white panel labelled 'UBBCode' which will contain the unique details of that picture.
You can either copy and paste the code or more easily - press the end button which says, 'copy to clipboard'.

You then go to your mail in a forum and press "CntrlV" - voila, your picture will appear in your mail, after you've sent it (just the code appears until you send).

[Stating the obvious - you can only have one item on your clipboard at once so you'll need to repeat the process for every picture you want to post in a mail. It's usually easiest to keep two screens of WAB open - one for the galleries, one for the forum!]

Hope that's clear and helpful. Good luck

Clarification: the 'user cp' in the navigation panel on the left of the home screen is dead but the one in band towards the top of pages does work! Sorry

A minor problem. If one puts inverted commas in a title/comment in the gallery (perhaps in fora?) then it is printed on screen as .... quot& &c&c&c ... making a nonsense of the title and probably making it 'unsearchable' as it were. Example is:

... but I've seen other occurrences.

Could this be corrected or should there be a warning against using inverted commas?

Yes .... you open up one of them and at the bottom, under the picture, there is a tick-box saying something to the effect of 'tick only if you want to delete this ...... '

I've been there

This only happens with double inverted commas " " - not single ones! ' '
