On Monday 25th May into Tuesday 26th we had the most terrible thunder storm. It had been a hot day and warm evening but on you could feel a storm in the air, and boy did we get one! Just after 9pm the lightning started we could see it out at sea in the distance, by 10.30pm the thunder started and the storm continued all night. At 3am it was still banging and crashing with no seconds to count between the lightning and thunder – It was almost continual. The house shook, the rain was torrential and we had plenty of hail. The next day trains weren’t going as the lines had been hit by lightning and there was flooding and lots of debris.
The bad weather was forgotten by me until I went to the Zuid Kennemerland NP today. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, I just couldn’t take it all in – there were so many trees downs. I am not kidding in a 20m stretch I counted 17 trees down alone, oaks, yew, pine and beech and the branches all over the place , this was repeated throughout the area. I think a lot of drays and birds nest and young could have been lost that night.
I just couldn’t capture the enormity of it in my photos.
