What's your weather like today?

I know this one is also on WAB but it might be interesting to see what the weather is like in countries other than the UK and also to see if there is any major trends towards a warming climate etc.

Today it hasn't got above freezing here and is set to be about -5 tonight. The coldest it's been here for a while I gather (I've just moved counties, so this is colder than I'm used to). It's very beautiful though with a freezing mist accross the river and a heavy frost outlining all the vegetation in sparkling white.

Nice to wake up to see snow on the 12th day

It's only a smattering, but the birds have been given a little extra food

In Cairo, today's high is 17°C with a night time low expected to be 6°. The skies are clear and its warm in the sun - at around 28°C.

This winter its a little colder than usual but the summer was particularly long and hot with temperatures going over 50°C in the Western Desert and in Upper Egypt from Luxor and Aswan on the Nile south to the Sudanese border and the southern Red south of Marsa Alam to Sudan.

Maybe we will get a little snow on Mount Sinai!

Well, i gather a cold winter means a hot summer and in areas along the Golf Stream it's going to be a very hot summer, according to the Met Office, due to the La Nina effect taking place in the Pacific.

It seems that quite a few places are having a cold winter?

Is is a Global saying about hot summers following cold winters?

Are you in the North or South - in the mountains or by the coast...?

Well, we have had a nippy couple of weeks, but last night we got down to -18°C a few degrees colder than expected.

I am glad though I am not over the border in Germany as they had temperatures of -26°C this morning. What made me smile when I heard, though it's serious, is that people with nose and lip piercings have be advised to remove them whilst the weather continues to fall below zero. The metal acts as a conductor and freezes to the skin leaving painful wounds once thawed! I suppose this advice applies to non Germans in this weather!

Question The seasonable weather making it like the Maji.

The sun is gettting higher in the sky, and at six o'clock there was a good bit of twilight in the southwestern sky looked at even for the east side of my building, the aprtment I am in side.

So the tendency is to radiated warmth into the ground; and still I could feel for the sun (which didn't warm things about 0 deg.'s) that it was weak in it's success factor. Maybe (unfortunately) the night would be warmer above the surface than predicted? The temperature at 9:00 p.m. is -6 deg. as predicted. I believe that the amount cloud cover forming in the night is underpredicted. People need to drive this one out.

Just thought I'd add our weather to this thread as it been so hot and humid here lately I thought we should note it down in case it doesn't happen again for a few years!
Today we recorded 32 degrees in the afternoon which is rather hot for our bit of South Cumbria.
We had a storm last night but it was still as humid in the morning. I always thought a storm cleared the air and made it more bearable but not this time.
Hows everyone else doing on the weather front? Is it warmer or colder or just the same where you are ?

I'm not one to complain about the heat but it has been unusually humid the past few days - dripping shirt on the slightest exertion ..... still a considerable downpour this morning does seem to have cleared the air, as they say.
Not much fun for those going on holiday though .....

Compared with the last week of scorching sun and blue skies it is considerably cooler and slightly less humid with a complete cloud cover today. Have been walking my dog in the relative cool of the very early morning all week.

Yes, that's how people in warmer parts of the world cope with it - get up earlier, go to bed later, snooze in between ..... I've never really been a morning person though .....

A smattering of snow this morning (less than a centimetre) but it thawed quickly. I have not known snow to lie overnight in the 10 years we have been here,or even to last beyond the morning. We do have very profound frosts though, often beautiful hore frosts.
Forcast -7° tonight.

Our snow didn't come to much but last night, walking home from a concert in town, evrything was glistening and sparkling .... as well as being very icey, slippery to walk on. Today it has been snowing more or less constantly and settling: I must go out and take some photos!

Youngest son just got back from Berlin where they had been having temperatures of -11C and freezing fog but no snow. Unlike southern UK and northern France where ports, airports and even the tunnel have been closed!

PS: not very photogenic at the moment: everything shades of dull grey - you need a bit of sunshine to bring out the contrasts ....

I think it is a lovely image Paul.
I know what you mean about shades of grey - I went out this morning in hopes of capturing some glorious snowscapes but the sky was grey and cloudy for the most.
We have had quite a bit of snow since Thursday and yesterday was -7 - a real shock to the system everytime I went to break the ice on the birds water. Today was -2 and quite blizzardly at times, it has warmed up a bit to 0 this afternoon so fingers crossed for a thaw.

Thanks for the kind words but the picture is clearer when the snow stops!

Can see which is Magnolia and which is oak.

Can also separate the forest trees: birch much finer than oak:

The snow has some interesting effects in the garden: the shrub which seems to be covered in large white flowers is, in fact, a Pinus mugo:

Lovely as the snow is to look at, we have to travel on Friday so hope the roads and rail are passable by then!

Get back home to find the garden in much the same condition as we left it!

This is heavier snow and it promises to get colder ....
Some photographers locally have been more imaginative in their photography than I .....

Cleared 8" of snow off my front path this morning in vain as now watching the continuing falls cover it over again.

We have had snow and ice since the 18-12-2009, after some terrible and treacherous days because of compacted ice and snow things started to improve this morning. Although we had some strange polystyrene ball like snow when we woke and it was still freezing the ice had started to disappear (how can that happen?).
I went out after lunch to feed the birds again I noticed this primrose in a sheltered area under the window . I felt a little ray of hope things were on the up.

By the time I took photo's checked them on the computer - it had started to snow again and in the last 10 minutes the streets are covered again .

Finally joined the snow club this morning--three whole inches!
Nearly all thawed now tho--it's been 5 degrees this afternoon
Rather dull weather here really, no blocked roads, plenty of grit when needed, cosy at home with plenty to do.
I am following the winter chaos with the family and on TV and wish all affected safe and warm.
Would have posted a photo of our snow but I can't seem to get it to load--- probably the weather .
Much cheered by the hopeful primrose - buds still very tight here despite a fair amount of sun.
