Happy median

After enjoying a walk today in cooler temperatures but lovely sunshine, I wondered how much consistently warmer the UK would need to become, before we began consuming less energy in order to warm our homes and live our lives. If a warmer climate became the norm, our future homes would perhaps need to be built differently with emphasis put on shading and less need for double glazing etc.

Hi Tinks, I just have to add my bit to this question. If it got hotter then we would have to have an Air Conditioner installed to keep the house cool, that would cost just about the same as central heating, mind you , you would also have a solar-panel on the roof and that would give you hot water. Every door and window would have a flywire frame to keep out the pesky flies. A well is also handy for watering the garden because sceme water would be rationed. Instead of a greenhouse you would have a shadehouse. Don't ever wish for our British climate to change dramaticaly like that. I had thirty seven years of the hot Australian climate, and have travelled all around the world, I tell you, this British weather is the best in the world.
