Hump backed Whale!

I can't believe it - a Humped backed whale was seen in the North Sea on Friday off he coast of the town I live, and I missed it!! I didn't even know anything about it until my youngest told me today .
Humped backs are usually seen in the North Atlantic. This one is thought to be hunting as there are alot of young herring in this area at the moment.
He was first spotted up the coast by Den Helder in May, he was then seen off the coast of Ireland in September - it was identified as the same whale by its dorsal fin. It is 15m long and I am glad to say appears to be in good health .

I doubt if I would have got any decent photo's with my point and shoot camera with 5x zoom but it would have been nice to have the chance to see them. I have never seen anything like that before. I have seen seals off the coast of Cumbria, but all I could see on the photos were little black blobs in the sea .

Do you get a good view of the minke from the shore, or would you have to go out on a boat trip to get a better view? I suppose even that wouldn't guarantee people a sighting.

Minke's seem to be doing well round here at the moment, most sightings are from whale watching boats, doubt you would see them from shore here although if you where up on the cliffs perhaps. And the occasional body is washed up.
