Crikey Hi All

Hi everyone my names Jaime, im 25 and i have to say it to avoid future confusion...im a gal not a guy...the name often confuses people.

So where to start...well im a WildLife Warrior which was a group founded by the late, great Steve Irwin. As a Warrior i work to his beliefs in conservation and his methods. Im passionate about all kinds of wildlife big and small and i fight for all kinds of conservation issues..my latest being Whaling...this new path in life will take me on many adventures but i wouldn't have it any other way.

Aside from my Warrior work i work with children..this also enables me to follow the Steveo route by promoting what he loved alot...conservation through exciting education and i love teaching children all about the wildlife in this world and how we can help conserve habitats around the world.

Later in the year i plan to open a Tortoise resuce centre..here i have plans to rescue, re-hone and educate people about these amazing little reptiles.

I also hope that you can all help by signing this forum to ban whaling in all waters of the world..it is one of the 21 i am currently running worldwide...the more petitions to one issue the better i say.

Ban Whaling*-*Online Petition

Hi Jaime welcome! Good luck with your Tortoise rescue centre, I thought trade in tortoises had stopped years ago - I'd love to hear more!
I hope your love and enthusiasm rubs off on some of the kids you work with, you are in a good position to be able introduce them to wildlife and conservation.
Enjoy the site .

Hi Goosey....sadly the trade in tortoises is still rife in the UK. Many still are not registered with DEFRA and many more ae brought as pets...presumed eay to care for and then end up very ill or dying due to people just not understanding their complex needs. The trade in Egyptian tortoises is still happening and this is an endangered tortoise...many people get them as pets and since it is one of the more complex breeds to care for...you end up with alot of unwanted or dead tortoises, plus they try to beed them as well which should be left to professionals due to their complex needs...we try to encourage only zoos to participate in the breeding and conservation of these lttle fellows.

Only a year ago i heard of a case involving a fmaily that had been sold a tortoise...only to find it grew to very large standards. This tortoise turned out to be a Galapagos giant tortoise...how that got in the country or in the trade route i will never know.

Hello Jaime
And welcome from me too!
That was a great introduction and sounds like you will definately make a difference with your enthusiasm and ideals!
And you'll have to let us know how you get on with your Tortoise Rescue Centre when it's up and running.
Where abouts are you based? Are you in the Uk or Australia or somewhere else?
Anyway, I look forward to your posts and photos and we'll see you around the forums!!
Suzanne

Hi Jaime
It's nice to know you are carrying on Steve Irwins good work in the UK, he definitely had an impact on people over here too didn't he with his enthusiasm and passion for conservation, so what a great thing to be involved with!

Funnily enough, I was born on the I.O.W. but left when I was 10. I haven't been back for 20 years but would definitely love to see what it is like now!
When we did live there though, our elderly neighbour used to have a tortoise that she would take out for walks on a yellow ribbon (or bandage ) so it didn't get lost in the long grass! That is one of my earliest memories actually.

Anyway, good luck with everything and I look forward to hearing how you get on!!
Suzanne
