I decided to join this site, already been a member of WAB for a while and I see some familiar faces here.

Pudding4brains I have missed your expertise, there's no escaping me now!

Welcome, Janet.
You've got a lot around you: nice city, the coast, the Wolds, the Wash .... and not too far from civilisation either.

Thanks for the welcome Paul!

Yes it is quite a good location when you look at it that way! Plus I have lots of bugs and insects!

Hi Janet,

A warm welcome to you too Janet, nice to have you with us

Don't expect too much in terms of "expertise" though, not from me anyway that is, just happily and ignorantly guessing along

What? And here's me thinking she's from somewhere in Britain - so what does the UK stand for then?

Thanks Arp, oh you are good when it comes to researching!

I think the 'UK' stands for the UnKnown! I'm not from anywhere, just an implant!

Well, Britain's okay but real civilisation starts in Yorkshire (ask Parisiens where French civilisation resides ...)! Not for no reason is August 1st Yorkshire Day - it is the same day as the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in 1834.

Mind, there are many who still want to become the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire so I doubt that you'll see autonomy for Greater Yorkshire yet.

hi,
Welcome from me too Janet.
Lovely area round Lincoln but as a Yorkshire Lass I have to agree with Paul.
However, who needs civilization when you've got the french climate, the local wine and that wonderful 'laissez-faire'?

Thank you reninfrance!

I tend to agree with you when it comes to the French climate and wine, or the Italian climate and wine, any would do when it's cold here! I was about to google once again for property in the sun when I saw your location, I've driven to Rome and back and fell in love with much of France and Italy.

Paul, now I do agree there's some great country around Sheffield, but there's all that fog that comes with it! I always found once I started to rise towards Sheffield I ended up in the fog.

Ah, that must be it - last time I went looking the civilization must have been hidden in the fog

Of course, all that made me feel right at home

Cheers all of you!

I've never really known fog here. I suspect it's something they do in Rotherham to confuse and keep out the barbarians!
[That's not too much of a joke really - the only time I've seen anything which could be described as 'fog' was in the Rother Valley when the Killamarsh waste furnace had one of its off days and sent out thick yellow clouds .... ]

OK Paul, I concede! I still say I encountered fog though!

Thanks for the welcome goosey, I'm busy too (with taking pics and editing etc.!) but it has been a little wetter the last two days so I've been catching up on moth ID.

Arp, I took pics of two different Harvestman/men today. I also have pics of a male and female Panorpa, so I no doubt will be picking your brains soon!

Hi Janet
It's great to have you here on WATW and you seem to have settled in well already (it's a bit like home from home isn't it )
So, welcome from me too and I look forward to seeing you round the forums.
Suzanne

Hi Suzanne, thanks, yes it is a bit like home from home.

Arp, I have uploaded a few Panorpa pics on WAB, I gather I need to copy the code here.

I'll start a thread on the Insects & I. forum soon and hope it works!

Thanks to goosey for the information about uploading pics so non WAB members can view them. Strangely enough the email arrived with the post, but it isn't showing up here yet!

I have started a thread already in the Insects & Inv. forum but linked to WAB Image Gallery.
