White - eye problem.
I saw some deer in the woods today and when I took a photo the flash automatically went off. This resulted in the deer having white eyes and ruins the pictures. I also have had this problem with moth photo's but not to such a great extent.
When I tried to remove the white eyes by using the Red-eye correction tool on Coral paintshop pro it doesn't make any difference at all.
Any ideas what I can do? Thanks

Sorry Hobjob - I have hit a problem. The Clone area is too large when I take from somewhere else. Resulting in the new colouring to over hang the intended area. I feel like I need to be able to "dot" the area.

I had the problem and sought advice on the wildlife-photography group and received the following information and advice:
This is due to a part of the eye called the tapetum which is highly reflective. In mammals and fish the tapetum reflects light back through the retina increasing it's stimulatory effect but reducing visual acuity. This is usually more prevalent in animals and fish that live in the dark or are nocturnal. In some species there are the vestiges of a tapetum indicating an evolutionary change from mainly nocturnal activity. There is no tapetum in humans by the way.
........................
(white eye) .... is the equivalent of red eye and the only way I know of getting rid of it is to use Photoshop to paint it out.
Lasso the irises and choose a dark almost black grey - paint this over the
selected irises (do this on a copy of the background layer) Reduce the
opacity of the copied layer to about 75% to make it look more nayural. You
may need to add back a highlight/catchlight using a very small white brush
..............
The only way I've found to correct it electronically is to select the white of the eye using the magic wand tool in paintshop and play with the gamma correction and brightness/contrast settings until it looks right!

Definitely a young fox and might have made a good picture if I hadn't flashed at it and scared it away
And if the fiery fox or seething serpent don't worry you there's always ....

Eyes OK but the image looks a little "flat" - could you enhance contrast a little, change the histogram etc etc. Difficult to photo against the light!

So that's why it ran off...
That's an interesting image, Paul. Those eyes really stand out!!!
BTW, humans do give a similar effect - watch a program where people use camcorders in infra-red NightMode and film themselves. You'll see their eyes glow light green. This is caused by the said IR LEDs reflecting back off the retina - very much the same way as the flash's effect in yours and Goosey's pictures.
