Middle-sized cat
Going back through some old photographs (prints) and came across one that I'm not sure of. I think it was a lynx - I remember it being quite large but not of the 'big cat' standard. Any ideas? It was in a zoo, incidentally ...

It could be an Eurasian Lynx , it looks the closest of the lynx family.

Sorry, no - if I had then I've lost them. This was from the days before digital when every shot counted on the bank balance!
Its ears don't look very lynx-like to me ....

Its ears don't look very lynx-like to me .... but I would expect them to have a Eurasian species rather than and American one?
PS: how did I manage to do that?

You can just make out the tufts on the ears in your larger image.
What ever it is, it has more of the appearance of a domestic cat rather than the "big cats".

That's what i though due to them being a common species in captivity, they are a species of lynx although they usually are a tad more spotty than this although you carnt see the body so........
