Orangutan Awareness Week

The International Orangutan Awareness Week starts on the 6th of November and aims to raise funds and promote the plight of the orangutan. To help support this week, it would be great if all members could submit lots of information, start new threads and make posts in the forum, post images in the orangutan images in the gallery and build awareness of these incredible animals.

Tell us what's going on in your part of the world, are you running any events in your town, workplace or school.

From the 6th to 12th November, I'll load a big banner onto the front of the site and do all we can to promote the Orangutan Awareness Week around the world. It would be great to have lots of threads setup, ready for new visitors to join in and find out more.

This is a great idea. I love Orangutans and I think it's really sad that they're in so much trouble. When will the world wake up to these things? We lost some dolphins this year and it looks like we'll lose a lot more if we do not do something. Is there going to be an awareness week for dolphins

I know that genetically chimpanzees are most closely related to humans but I always feel more affinity for orangs. Not that I've ever been that closely involved with one but I do feel some empathy ... perhaps it's my hair style?

Thanks so much for the invitation to suggest ways you can help save orang-utans!

The Orang-utan Appeal by international conservation organisation World Land Trust (WLT), is raising funds for the purchase and protection of a 222 acre (90 ha) corridor to link together two sections of the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, Malaysian Borneo, enabling the protection and long-term survival of over 600 Orang-utans.

We need to act quickly as this land is destined to be turned into more Palm Oil plantation. We have aready raised over a third of the target amount - and with your help we can raise the remainder.

Please help the orang-utans this week by supporting the Orang-utan Appeal.

To make it as easy as possible to contribute, we have set up a donation page on Justgiving.com, and you can also donate via Facebook or MySpace using 'Causes':

For more information about this project in Borneo, and the World Land Trust, see Orang-utan Appeal: Help Save Corridors for Orang-utans in Borneo, Malaysia

Thank you so much for your support!

Orangutan Awareness Week

Just thought that it would be nice to let you know that the National Zoo of Malaysia is also taking part in the Orangutan Awareness Week. We are also launching a life sized fake orangutan nest so that children will know that orangutans build nests and have a feel of what it is like snuggled up in one!

Our volunteers this month will get to be part of this great awareness campaign!

I'm so heartened to see there are dedicated projects to raise awareness of the orangutan's plight on this website . I've been sponsoring one of these fabulous animals for 2 years and will continue to do so all the time I'm able to.
