Unsure

I found these on and inside a red campion seed head, there are more on other seed heads on different red campion plants.
I got excited thinking it was caused by one of the moth larvae which feed on the seeds but when I put it on Back garden moths for an ID they thought it was snail poo . I don't really think it is, but would like a second, third and fourth opinion please .

Thanks

'fraid it is snail poo Goosey. By the size of it I'd guess at Cornu aspersum, the Common Garden Snail ( so nothing exciting on that front, either ;-( ).

Chris

Chris
I am still not convinced .

I checked again today and to my surprise where there were these clusters of whatever there were larvae very close by. I believe these are Lychnis larvae - Hadena bicruris (I have seen adults around for the last few weeks). It was odd because these were largish latter instar larvae and I did not see them at all yesterday and I couldn't believe I had missed them.
Then when I went out a bit later I thought they were gone again but then saw they were inside some of the pods.

My thought is then, this is not snail poo but caterpillar poo?

Thats a relief , I have had a confirmation and it is indeed Lychnis larva poo.

So you were half right Chris and I was half wrong but we got there in the end .
