I was chopping back the willow this morning and found hundreds of these - are they aphids? I am surprised the blue and great tits haven't had them.
Yjey are, indeed, the wintering form of one of the willow aphids (I can't remember which one at the moment ). Perhaps they taste nasty to birds? The common ladybirds don't seem to mind.
