Are there any insects that can close their eyes, or do they always have their eyes open?to

As far as I am aware, no. There could be some obscure burrower that does though

Good question! To be honest, I haven't really considered this before. As they are a different structure, and pound for pound, made far stronger material that our eyes, I suppose they don't need to!

Not to the best of my knowledge either. Although some insects have their eyes in depressions or on the underside of their heads which might give them some protection.
