Moth ID, Kenya

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could confirm this moth for me:

unknown moth - Wild About Britain Pics

It was taken in 2005 in Nyahururu, Kenya. I have it down as Gonimbrasia tyrrhea hoehnelii I'm pretty sure it's a Saturniid of some sort, couldn't find much info on the name I had down though.

Thanks,

Nige

Hi Nige and welcome, if it was info you were wanting over this fantastic moth I can't be of any help, all I seem to come up withis how to buy them . But I can confirm your suggestion of Gonimbrasia tyrrhea hoehnelii though in some places it is just called Gonimbrasia tyrrhea.
Hope that's useful anyway.

By the way we would love to see photo's and hear about you time in Kenya .

Can I just ask though, that you upload to the gallery here at WATW (your pictures will go instantly in to the gallery - no need to wait approval!) rather than WAB so your images stay with your posts and not lost in any WAB Archive clearance or shuffle in the future -thanks . We may look the same but are quite different really .

Thanks for the reply and info goosey

I did try uploading to the WATW library but it kept directing me somewhere else

My trip to Kenya was a month, but very regretably I wasn't really into nature back then, so wish I was! I took pics of intresting things like large moths and when we did a safari of all the usual suspects, really wish I was more into nature then. Hopefully will go back with the missus in the future!

Hello there, Nige, and welcome.
Lots of people seem to have problems with uploading pics although it's a lot simpler than WAB!

Go to 'Gallery' (click it on the second band down above - Main Index - Wildlife Photography)
Click 'upload images'
Select which gallery you wish to put your picture in ('Unidentified' is always a good start!).
Click browse and find the picture on your computer
Add comments in apropriate places then click 'Upload/submit' (two buttons - both of which work!) ...' and your picture(s) should appear immediately in the gallery (you can edit comment &c for as long as you like!).

Shame you didn't get too much stuff but I'm sure we'd like to see whatever you did get! Better luck next time ....
