A little monster

I found this little monster, it can sure hop but what is confusing me is the lack of antennae and lack of spines on hind legs I appreciate its a youngster, any clues welcome

As you say lack of spines on the hind legs rule out leafhopper, I suppose it could be a froghopper - what sort of size was it?

Hi basquesteve

I think Arp means it's an insect larva of the Issus species, in I my M humble H opinion O = IMHO!

Have alook at
Larve d' Isside - Issus coleoptratus Hysteropterum on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

and an adult planthopper here

Arp, apologies - I see you're not online and steve was - I'm not answering for you!

Not at all - on the contrary, thanks for clearing up the messy shorthand I left

@Steve: Sorry about that, my PC-time was (more than) consumed when I quickly dropped in the answer.

Too quickly possibly even, as a quick look in Fauna Europaea learns that in France there are a few Issidae outside the genus Issus that I have no clue about, let alone about the nymphs. So strictly speaking I should have limited it to "Issidae", even if the nymph is quite similar looking to the omnipresent Issus coleoptratus, I shouldn rule out the other genera that I simply don know

Neat little aliens anyway (and good shots of'm too!)

Cheers, Arp
