bee for id please..
hi,
Went for a bug hunting trip (with my camera of course! ) to the local nature reserve (Gent, Belgium) yesterday and one of my finds was this bee feeding on Heracleum flowers. The nice thing about these big flower heads is that insects stay quite a while as there is so much to feed on, less energy spilt too from having to fly from one flower to the other! So I had plenty of opportunity to get some good shots.
Its size is about that of a Honney bee (Apis millefera)..and for a moment I thought it could be one, perhaps a worn out one that lost almost all of its hairs.. I had read that the first part of the abdomen can be reddish too..
Thanks!

Hi Bon!
It's an Andrena sp. I found one and had it ID'd on WAB as either Andrena bimaculata, A. trimmerana or even A. rosae. Distinction is by microscope...
I'm just not too sure which of these are found in your area - they may all be, or it might be one I haven't included through a lack of knowledge of your natives

Thanks Jason!
It gives me a clue in which direction I have to search!

For in case someone would be interested; got the id today from Jernoldson from 'Natuurforum Vlaanderen'. It is Andrena labiata, normally feeding on Veronica flowers but not despising Heracleum flowers neither
