Unknown dragonfly

Although I've seen a fe dragonflies around Egypt throughout the winter, this is the first one to visit our garden and I have no idea what is it.

Hi Jacqueline, I am not sure at all about this one but I suspect it could be a male Hemiannax ephippiger - Vagrant Emperor Dragonfly.

It will be a month or more before I expect to start seeing dragonflies in this part of Holland.

Thanks Shirley.

It certainly looks like a male Hemiannax ephippiger and they are found all over north Africa.
