ID for a wasp, please.

The images were taken in Cairo yesterday.

It was about 25 mm long.

Thanks

Jacqueline

Hi JB

As I'm from the UK I don't have much of an idea what you have in Egypt, so I may be wrong...

Vespidae > Polistinae - Paper wasp sp.

I apologise - I'm just too inexperienced in Egyptian invertebrates, but I think I at least have the right family - I hope!!

I think the body-coloured wings will get you to genus and the red markings to species.

I'll continue trying to species-level tomorrow

EDIT: 25cms long wow - 10 inches!!!!!

Take care,

Jason

Hi Jason

It turns out to be Delta emarginatum and it is a mere 25 mm long!!!! My mistake!

I'm from the UK too, and having lived in Egypt and other parts of the Middle East for 15 years, I'm also no expert in Egyptian invertebrates. My excuse is that it is a comparatively new hobby!

Regards

Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline,

I though you might be.

I used an English-translated Egyptian Google, your native version I suspect.

A mud wasp. Oh well, I can accept being wrong. Character building (j/k)

Well, same family though!!! (vespidae)

What's your favourite Egyptian species, then?

Take care,

Jason

Hi Jason

My very favourite Egyptian species is the Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse.

Best regards

Jacqueline
