Resident Spider

Saw it sitting in the throat, so waited until it came to sit on the lip. Species anybody?

Hi Ericrovve
Its a Crab Spider Misumena vatia, it sits in wait in ambush on flowerheads for a tasty meal to come along. It has the ability to slowly change colour over a few days to match its surroundings.

I saw one in France last month, wonderfully camouflaged in a rose that had caught a honey bee

Many thanks for the ID, Black. I've a pic of a yellow one in a yellow poppy:

This one was somewhat bigger - same species, though?

Hi again,
if you can see the abdomen of the crab spider Misumena vatia in your Bastard Balm photo was quite rounded whereas the abdomen on the crab spider in your yellow poppy photo looks rather triangular shaped to me. I think its probably Thomisus onustus the species of Crab Spider I saw in France.

There's a nice Thomisidae site you might want to check out at
Thomisidae

Here's the pic that should have been there:

So this would be Misumena vatia, again?

Yes I think the crab spider on the Martagon Lily looks like Misumena vatia again.
