Pupa?

I found this today, does anyone have any idea what sort of pupa this is? This bit was 11mm.

To me it looks like half of one of the larger Moth-pupa I find under dead wood etc when looking for woodlice - couldn't say what moth though.

That was fast! I looked but couldn't see anything in the vacinity which could have come from it, but I think you are right and it could be a moth.

The empty exuvia of these seem to stay "good" for a long time - so the moth would/could have been long gone. The neat half suggests that maybe something "bad" happened to it, possibly even before hatching? Generally you'll find the whole exuvia, only a bit cracked open at the side where the moth emerged.

Thats sad , and it was the only ever pupa case I have ever found in the garden, so I "was" pleased to have found one. Thanks for saying what it should have been like though, if it had been successful.

Hi Goosey,

To put your mind at ease : It may, of course, also very well be that the moth hatched successfully and the exuvia was later half-eaten by scavengers such as woodlice or so

Come to thing of it - it must have been that
