Larva - bad hair day

At first glance, this looked like a mealybug under a leaf until it started moving quite quickly.

It looks like some kind of lacewing larva from the pincers at the front. I'm not sure what the wooly stuff is made of.

Intriguing critter that Don't think I've seen it before ...

Not sure about the lacewing pincers though, seems quite different to me

White "bad hair day" stuff is usually waxy substances, but with this I'm not sure - all waxy secretions I've seen so far are either much thicker or thin and straight. This really looks like it got into a fight with mama's stitchwork supplies (and lost)

Hope someone else can clear things up
Arp

Probably not very helpful - but I like to try .

Black posted this image from Madagascar of Flatid leaf bug nymphs, they are not obviously the same but it might give you something to go on in your search of an ID.

A possibility here? I found this abstract from an article in Science magazine (you have to subscribe for the full article, so can't see if there are any pictures)

"Wolf-in-Sheep's-Clothing" Strategy of a Predaceous Insect Larva -- EISNER et al. 199 (4330): 790 -- Science

The larva of the green lacewing Chrysopa slossonae lives in colonies of the wooly alder aphid Prociphilus tesselatus upon which it feeds. It disguises itself as its prey by plucking some of the waxy "wool" from the bodies of the aphids and applying this material to its own back.

I can't say I saw any aphids on the tree it was on - must go back for another look.
