Marine pollution
In this case, mainly from excess nitrogenous run-off from farming: BBC News - Toxic algae turns Brittany's beaches green
Kills a lot of fish and other sea-life as well as spoiling peoples' recreation. It's not only occurring in Brittany but the Channel Islands and Cornwall - probably lots of other places.
