We've had a few pictures in the gallery of animals as food which seem odd to European/North American eyes. Perhaps we could think about what is perceived as acceptable to eat and why? Certainly not sharks' fins when the rest of the fish is thrown back into the sea or whales or primates
but where is the line drawn?
As an uncontroversial starter, I do not like eating molluscs (especially gastropods) but have no principled objection to it. These decorative illustrations from 17-18C Flanders show that snails were a major dietary source rather than the luxury they are today.
What interests me more is how these people were catching the snails - playing music, singing to them? Give me a clue!
