Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls is back on TV tonight with a new series called 'Born Survivor'. For those who haven't seen him before, he's like Ray Mears-meets-Steve Irwin-meets-Jack Bauer...a survival expert, who loves animals, but then eats most of them

Probably not one for the vegetarians out there, but a great reminder of our origins as a species before supermarkets wrapped everything in sellofa... cellepha... cellafai... - stretchy plastic

I watched most of it and though it was some great TV. Bear Grylls is definitely more interesting in front of the camera than some of the other survival guys. It's one of those types of programmes that could easily turn into a lecture, but Bear did a good job of keeping it entertaining.

Some of the sweeping camera shots looked like they were filmed from a crane/rig, and the lighting looked like there were a few of lamps/reflectors around, so you didn't get the feeling that he was alone, but .

That said, to drop into the jungle with just a small knife and a water bottle, Bear Grylls makes Ray Mears pyrex bowls look very out of place

Definitely watching the next ones

I've never seen any of these and get a bit bored with 'survivalism' - each trying to outdo the other in something gruesome. So I was quite amused to find that most of his stunts are just that - most of the programmes are faked. But it's an interesting point - is there anything on televison which isn't faked if necessary?
