Cheetah
Cheetah is an atypical member of cat family. It is unique in speed, stealth, while lacking climbing abilities. It is the fastest animal, reaching speed between 112Kms per hour. Its chest is in deep and waist is narrow. Male cheetah are very territory and sociable and will group together for life. But female does not establish territories. The area they live in is termed a home range. The cheetah's cannot roar like other big cats.

Cheeta's: Diet and hunting
The cheetah is a carnivore, eating mostly mammals under 40 kilograms (88 lb), including the Thomson's gazelle, the Grant's gazelle, the springbok and the impala. The young of larger mammals such as wildebeests and zebras are taken at times, adults too, when the cats hunt in groups. Guineafowl and hares are also prey. While the other big cats mainly hunt by night, the cheetah is a diurnal hunter. It hunts usually either early in the morning or later in the evening when it is not so hot, but there is still enough light.
The cheetah hunts by vision rather than by scent. Prey is stalked to within 10 metres (33 ft)-30 metres (98 ft), then chased. This is usually over in less than a minute, and if the cheetah fails to make a catch quickly, it will give up. The cheetah has an average hunting success rate of around 50% - half of its chases result in failure.

Hi...
Cheetahs are found in open and partially open savannas.Cheetah mothers spend a long time teaching their young how to hunt. Small live antelopes are brought back to the cubs so they can learn to chase and catch them.Cheetahs do not roar like lions, but they purr, hiss, whine and growl. They also make a variety of contact calls; the most common is a birdlike chirping sound. Cheetah is the fastest animal.

Cheetah
Cheetah will also hunt as a coalition. I have seen two brothers bring down an Nyala in the Sabi Sand area of South Africa, then sit and share the kill with no aggression toward each other. Each taking a turn to eat. I have also seen cheetah kill in dense bush at Makalali (South Africa) So they are quite adaptable. I will post pics to support this, but I must agree with all that has been said before. Fit, fast, open savanah, and deadly!

One of the saddest things about the cheetah is that globally it now has a very reduced gene pool. This was partly due to human hunting and reduction of habitat in the 20C but probably partly due to an earlier (last Ice Age) reduction of habitat.
There have been large numbers of cheetahs bred in zoos but these have also contributed to reduction of gene pool - despite attempts to cross breed with other populations and even capture of wild animals for interbreeding!
The implications are that climate change and other human activity could mean that all cheetah end up with the same genotype and thus be extremely prone to disease etc..
All very sad .....

I want to post some pics and a bit of a story about two cheetah making a kill of an Nyala. They are “grab shots” taken from a moving land rover so are not worthy of putting in the gallery. But what they do show (even if a bit wobly) is some classic animal behaviour. How do I put a pic in a message?

Unfortunately, unlike our sister site WAB, we do not have an additional gallery for forum/archive images so a hyperlink to an outside gallery seems to be your only option if you don't wish to include these shots on your WATW Gallery. (Unless of course, like me on occasion, you 'cheat' and use the 'Image gallery - Forum Section' on WAB to upload to WATW)
Hope you find a way round the problem as I would love to be enlightened.

Sounds interesting .
I am afraid you are going to have to add your images via the gallery, rather annoying I know - have some very dodgy pictures there myself just because I wanted to add them to a post.
Here's how you go about doing it
To add an image to a post, its best to have two tabs open.
On Tab 1. write your post ready
On Tab 2. upload your image to the gallery.
Then copy and paste the whole Linked Thumbnail: code of your image/s and paste them into your post going to the other Tab.
If you have more than 1 image to put into a post, can you number each one and press space between each image code.
Click preview to make sure all images are there and in the right place before you Submit reply.
Good luck. I look forward to reading and seeing all about it.

Ditto ..... It's wildlife photography with the emphasis on the wildlife rather than the photography!

The King Cheetah?
The Cheetah is one of my favourite animals (though nothing can beat a wolf in my opinion...)

This sounds like good news: BBC News - Cheetah will run again in India
On the other hand, they only have African cheetahs to work on and they have very limited genetic diversity.
