Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011

Hi,

I have just posted a thread on the Wild About Britain forum asking for help with identification of a number of Fungi phtographed this summer on the Faroe Islands.

I wanted to post on both sites, but for some reason have had some problems uploading my photos onto this forum.

Here is a link to the thread:

Fungi found in The Faroe Islands July 2011 - Wild About Britain

Any input would be much appreciated, many thanks

Oh no about your upload problem depriving us here of your lovely fungi images in the gallery .

I don't really see a reason as both systems work the same (but here is better as images don't have to wait for moderated approval or limited to 5 uploads a day )

Anyway take a look at this thread and see if it helps in future

I doubt if you need this one but just in case

Lovely to see you back Steve, I will have a proper look at your images later and see if I can help with any ID's .

10. 11. 12.

13. ]

Are all Hygrocybe species (waxcaps), nice little finds and very pretty. They only grow in places which have never been mown or cultivated so are very picky where they decide to grow.

Thanks for your reply.

The waxcaps are indeed very pretty, in particular the colour of number 13 was stunning!

Actually in order to get my images on to the Wild About Britain site I have to resize them and make them much smaller. When I then tried to upload these here it said they were too small.

I'm sure if I tried again I could probably get it right. I have a few more images of fungi from the Faroe Islands so I can try and get them on here soon

Nothing new to add as yet to the ID's of the remaining fungi but I am working on it .
But just something to think of for future fungi finds which would really be beneficial to getting your finds ID's.

1. A photograph of the gills - you don't have to remove the fungus to do this - use a mirror and yo can take a photo of the reflection. But the colour, spacing and shape of the gills and how they are connected to the stem (stipe) are all important, and there may be no gills at all but pores!

2. You have given indication to substrate - that helps.

3. Size, height and width of cap where applicable.

Here is another useful link which Cybershot posted Identification Methodology

There are a few more threads you may find interesting which have been made "Sticky" at the top of the fungi forum page .
