Myriostoma coliforme - Pepperpot earthstar

Myriostoma coliforme - Pepperpot earthstar's I found some!
Now these were something I wasn't on the look out for today.
I found 3 of what I thought were old and mossy Geatrum triplex, one did show some holes in the top but I thought that was natural wear and tear, the others had lost the top of the ball and were just exposing the gleba powder. But it was the size and how the star bits were thinner and furled under which got me thinking -it wasn't quite right.

Then I started to look properly and I found 6 more which were definitely Pepperpot earthstar's

What a find, I was so pleased , then later I found another single specimen in another loacation!

No, they were a first for me, but I knew them to be in the area. To find two locations was a real bonus. They can only be found in coastal dune areas in The Netherlands so are quite rare. I have forwarded the photo's and sightings to both the Natuurmonumenten and Waarnemming's .

There are 2 more Geastrum species I am after now which have both been found in The Netherlands this week which are also rare-Geastrum coronatum and Geastrum pseudolimbatum. Fingers crossed .

Hi Alok, no I am not a mycologist, just an enthusiastic amature.

Oh what fun and what a fantastic website you have and so many species .

What I can't believe though is how many species you have in the very north of India which I see here in The Netherlands in a predominantly coastal area/sand dune area. You also have some in your gallery I have never seen before. I look forward to studying your site properly at a more leisurely pace - I just wizzed through it before. You will have to put some of your images in to the WATW gallery .

This time of year there isn't an awful lot of fungi around, so finding anything interesting is such a thrill, our best and most exciting time is August- November.

You can see some of my images here, not much discriptive or educational value, just photo's.
