Halloween fungi!

Well these gothic looking finds suit the day perfectly!

Found on grass on parkland with beech trees near by. The single specimen was 8cm in diameter and 8cm high.
The double specimen measured 10cm acoss (both caps) and was 6cm tall.

The stipes look distinctive and the dark browny/black caps had flecks of green on them and those black gills look rather toothish - a very strange type of fungi! Brilliant - I just love them!

A Fairy Ring!
What is Halloween-ish about that you may ask - but our Dutch members will pick up on it straight away. The Dutch word for one is "Heksenkring" which means witches circle!

I have never seen a ring of Mycena pura before!

Sorry Ricky, Not at this time of the year for the particular region, and this fruit body is displaying gills so I'm more inclne to suggest Russula nigricans - Blackening Russula.

David

Thanks David, it's always nice to get an identification. The examples of Russula nigricans I have just been looking at aren't half as cool as mine !
