I've seen Inkycaps lift up hard compacted gravel and even tarmac. How does such a soft thing do it?

That is so difficult to believe , but the evidence is in the photo's! How on earth were the fungi strong enough to do that?

Not quite in the same league, but I can remember being amazed that these little fellas had 'forced' their way through a compacted semi-metalled roadway

P.S. Some doubt has since been shed on my ID of this species and it may well be Inocybe lacera - any views?
