Greek Tragedy

Tragedies hit you more when you know the places and people. So, I'm particularly horrified by the fires in Greece. Even have a picture of one such area in the gallery: http://www.wildabouttheworld.com/gal...500/ppuser/152
What some people will do for money .... how long will it take the wildlife to recover in what is a very fragile part of the world at the best of times?

I put up a couple of pictures from Greece some time ago but wonder if it's worth uploading any more.

One of the best places for plants and insects (probably other things ) was the Langhada Pass - which has been one of the areas worst hit by fire ...

It is truely awful, and so scary - those poor people. The damage what has been deliberately done and 60 people technically murdered, it's unconceivable what goes through peoples minds. Also thousands of years of Greek architechture and history which could have been wiped out not to mention the wildlife. I hope the government don't back down and let them build on this land after all and let these greedy people win.

Dear Paul,

It seems that so often to sustain an economy it takes the assurance of ever-OTHER sources of assured consumption over and against the thought someone else steeling form you. We are supposed to sustain in Nature, but then the markets have to be presumed to permit the business of BOTH buy and sell in advance.

The Greek fires seem to bring the time of direct contentment of what our finite life needs to fulfill the wish of human progress. So the stories of deliberately set fires go to show that perhaps we can back to those 'times' for the Time to SUSTAIN needs for no more than the worked out allotment. Sure to sustain. We just need to afford in enough time.

Perhaps some good will come out of the fires -

but I doubt it ....

I think that what we had there was simple greed! People who had no concern for the natural environment and just wanted to sell or develop their land. That may be the nature of primitive capitalism but it has nothing to do with 'progress'!
