Renewable energy

Renewable energy comes in various forms from bio fuels and solar energy to wind power and hydropower, but which of them is currently leading the way as the most viable solution for renewable energy in most big (home and business) applications?

My view is that solar power is the only major long-term solution - millions of panels strung across the Sahara &c..
But this needs to be an international operation, not a national or commercial one ....
