Top Ten Places to Visit in North America

What are your top ten favourite places in North America that you have either visited or would like to visit?

Your top 10 should only include wildlife/rural/natural places like forests, canyons, beaches, mountain ranges, valleys, lakes etc and not the cities or urban areas.

It'll be great to hear everyone's ideas so get posting...if you can only think of a few, add them in and come back to add some more to your list when you've thought of them

Death Valley

I was somewhat apprehensive as we made our way down into Death Valley - 3.3 million acres of desert - what if we had a puncture? The road wound on for mile after mile as we descended into this National Park, which at first appeared totally arid. However, cacti, yucca and tumbleweed were apparent even though the valley bottom was cracked and dry. For me it was proabably the most amazing sight during our holiday. Yes, there were prettier places in North America, but the heat, shadows and colours on the mountains and the vast expanse of the wilderness made me feel very small. How do animals and vegetation thrive? How did people survive living there long ago? And how far had the cyclists we saw been pedalling?

Tink

Hi Tink, Death Vally sounds like one heck of a rugged place to visit. Thanks to programms on the telly and articles in the National Geographic I have a good idea what it is like, and honestly, I do'nt have any desire to visit the place, reminds me of the hot outback in Australia where even the flies seek shelter from the sun.

Canadian Rockies, in particular, take a trip up Sulphur mountain in Banff. You get the most amazing views.

Lake Louise is so beautiful, with the mount Victoria glacier just behind it. (Way too many tourists though) - in Banff National park

Takkakaw Falls in Yoho National park, British Columbia.
Emerald Lake, Yoho National park, British Columbia.
