Side effects of 'eco-tourism'

We often forget how easy it is to damage fragile environments:

You would expect the skins to biodegrade more quickly than that - well I would .

What I see most often chucked away in our NP is orange peel and when I say most often I mean often! I have always wondered why people would want such a sticky and messy fruit to snack on when they are out . As annoying as it is I would still rather see that than pop and beer bottles.
Aren't people lazy and discusting .

I think that's really the point - we assume that biological things will degrade but, clearly, at altitude they don't. It is, of course, much worse at even higher altitides in the Alps, Himalayas and Andes. I must admit that, although I don't take fruit with skins out for countryisde snacks, I would have made the assumption that it was okay to leave the remains to be degraded naturally. The only answer, then, is to take home with you everything that you don't eat ....
