Where to go, how to get there?

There's a thread for the best places but I thought it would be useful to have one so that we can get advice off of people who live in a good bit of natural world or who have visited. We went to Brittanny this year and while we saw lots of good things, there's always the suspicion that you might have missed something *really* good! Would therefore have been nice if I could have asked for tips on a forum like this ... don't tell me about Britanny now!

Starter, we're going to northern Spain starting in Santander. Where should we go after that? What's the public transport like?

Cheers, Paul

train travel

One of the best sites for planning your journeys in Europe is The Man in Seat Sixty-One... - not so comprehensive/useful outside of Europe ....

Eurostar

Good news from Eurostar is that they're planning to be carbon neutral by 2012 - including using 'paperless tickets'?

Tread Lightly. Two words. One commitment. A whole new approach to European travel.

don't take the plane!!!!

I've made a pledge on this website i found called htttp://www.liveearthtree.com/ which allows you to make a promise to helo the environment. I have decided never to take a plane again to travel abroad because they give out the most carbon emmissions of any type of transport. On the site you can make any pledge you want and it really helps you to stick to it when you realise what people are doing to help. I encourage everyone to stop travelling abroad by planes but if that is too much of an inconvenience then at least do something. Make a pledge and help save the planet.!!!

Good for you - I hope you stick to it. Environmental considerations apart, train (even 'nus) journeys are good because you see the countryside that you're travelling through - and the animals and plants that are in it.
