Transylvania in Romania
One of the last remaining true wilderness areas in Europe is found amongst the peaks and ancient forests of the Carpathian Mountains in central Romania. I haven't been abroad for many years now and its one place I'd really love to visit. I hope to go next Autumn but a lot depends on finances over the next year. The kind of trip I'd like to make (with wildlife and the Forests as its main focus for me) costs around £800 so I don't know if it would be possible yet. Also need to take in Bran (Dracula's) Castle as its a major interest of a friend I'd be travelling with.
This is the best one we've found so far. Just wondering if anyone knows of something similar that might be a little less expensive? I'd also be very interested in hearing the experiences of anyone who has been to the area.

Looks very good. I suppose £500+ for six days seems a bit steep - at least they allow you to get there other ways than flying. I'd be tempted to get the train but extend the trip by staying somewhere else on route ...

Recommended wildlife tours in Transylvania
Hi,
My friend, Paul White, is setting up a business in Transylvania from the beginning of 2008. He will be out there at the end of the summer, but I wouldn't recommend a visit then because of the weather.
However, it might be worth visiting his website to see if it interests you. He is very environmentally aware and keen on sustainable tourism. If nothing else comes of it, he will most appreciative of any comments to help him on his way
Kind regards,
Peter.
