Strange trees and weather on our trip out! Part 1

I was out yesterday in Duin en Kruidberg part of our National park with my daughter. It looked a whole lot different to the other places I have visited before in there. It started off with woodland but the further we walked the more barren and windswept it was, small shrubby, thorny plants and any trees there were bent over by the wind. It was very hilly and sandy but with grassy patches. After about two hours we reached a small fresh water lake there wasn’t much bird life on it though to reward us for our efforts, just a dozen or so coots.

I saw this amazing old tree there, how it survived in such a place I don’t know. I am not sure if it is actually dead now, but will definitely go back in the spring to see if there is signs of new growth. The trunk and main central branch were completely hollow all the way up. The whole tree had such a mystical quality about it.
When I looked up I spotted a single deer on the horizon. I call this image "Deer in silhouette" as it sounds like I was intending it to look like that, and its not just a bad photo!

I have just realised I can only add four images at a time - so I will have to organise a part 2

Who's watching whom?
See the weather has calmed down a bit (come over here) - atmospheric pictures.
The tree could be a lime (Tilia sp but would have thought a willow (Salix) most likely? These would be leafless now so perhaps in the spring ....

I wasn't aware of the four links limit - we live and learn.
