Let's hope the USA keep P.M and S.O. close to their hearts and they stay there. I can think of a few other celebrities I'd gladly see make the switch to that side of the Atlantic e.g. Gordon Ramsay, Jeremy Clarkson.

As this is Wild About The World I'll have a grumble about natural history TV presenters who feel they have to have to get intimate with the animals and manhandle them or get too close. Although I liked Steve Irwin I didn't enjoy seeing him grappling with crocodiles etc. I much prefer to just watch good footage of the animals and get an interesting commentary. Thankfully Springwatch and Autumnwatch (natural history TV series in the UK) have brought back this approach.

What really annoys me are people who punctuate every sentence (some times it seems like every other word) with "You Know". Maybe they have something important or interesting to say but I don't usually find out as I switch off or start mentally counting the times they say "you know" .

Another thing that annoys me are people who start a sentence with "I mean" . Why? What do they mean? I mean to go shopping , I mean loose weight, I mean to be a less irritating person when I start a sentence .

You know, that irritates me as well .

Chris

p.s I KNEW just the mention of "celebrities" would bring on attacks of rabid apoplexy

No I can't claim to be rooftopjump! Obviously a rival!
Yes - perfect diction, borderline plummy!

The loss of full sized 'Wagon Wheels'. You used to be a veritable hero if you could get a whole one in your mouth - now they're nothing more than normal biccies

Back to the Olympics and installations .....
On Wednesday I have to get to Northampton General Hospital but not sure how we will get there, given the procession that will be travelling in the opposite direction:
...and is heading to Northampton | Godiva awakes... | Northampton Borough Council

At least it's cycle-powered .....

Goosey, do you get Lidl stores in the Netherlands? If so, try out their Aerocell batteries. They're a fraction of the price and they last even longer than Duracell. It's not just me that says so. Here's the results of a test that the Sun newspaper carried out: Captain Crunch on the best batteries | The Sun |News|Sun City|Captain Crunch

Clas Olsen ( if they are in Holland ) do a charger and four batteries for less than the cost of four batteries . On to the Grumble of the Day. " Do you want a side with that?". Of course I bl**dy well do. A two dimensional steak isn't any bl**dy use is it. It's just a dirty mark on the plate!!!!!! I didn't order a Mobius strip, did I?

Chris ( who's just gone to lie down in a darkened room ).

No we don't have that here.

Now that is worth knowing! I will get some and test them out for myself. Thanks for the tip off Malkie.

If I'm sitting at a table outside a cafe, having a cup of coffee and a cigarette ( I know, mea culpa etc ) and someone with a baby sits near me, I'll put the ciggy out. Good manners, health of a child and all that . If I'm doing the same and an adult sits next to me, why the hell should I be expected to stop behaving in a legal manner. I was there first .

Not so much a grumble, but an apology . I've just had a mother with a pushchair apologise to me for cutting me up . I've had to sit down and have a pint of bitter - to recover

They seem to offer courses to people who buy pushchairs - the use of a pushchair as an offensive weapon. The mother you met had obviously missed her time.

Picked up a new vacuum cleaner this morning and - ( here comes todays grumble ) - I practically had to resort to extreme violence in order to pay for it in cash. " We'd prefer it if you used a credit card, Sir " ( the last word, I swear, was spelled C - U - R ). It's legal tender, it's bl**dy money. Why use a card when I've got the cash ( you'll have to imagine a rabid, homicidal smilie here ).

Here I am back in The Netherlands after 17 days in Cumbria UK, having a lovely time on holiday and I am back with a moan .
Two weeks before we went to England I wasn't able to receive BBC Radio Cumbria on the internet (I do like to listen in at sometime most days) , just an automated message not telling us anything apart we couldn't recieve it due to contractural issue or an error. After a lot of delving to find out why it turned out it was due to the Olympics why couldn't the message have said that . I thought when we got back we would be able to listen to it again, but oh no - just the same stupid message.

PS, hi again everyone - glad 'most' of you behaved while I was away . We shan't mention the spammers or I will be here allday moaning and I have unpacking to do

UK citizens who move to Sweden are described in various social situations and in the media as "englishmen". I am not English - I am Welsh and a citizen of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" - as are all people born or who live in England. It says so in my passport. I am also tired of people from England who refer to UK as "England". No offence intended

I also get very irritated when USA is descibed as America. There are 2 american continents. The north consists of USA and Canada, the south consists of all of the countries there, for example Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Brazil. To say that "I am an American" is arrogant and incorrect.

Totally agree. I'm half Welsh, on my Mums side, and half Scouse on my Dads. No 'English' at all . One thing though, that annoys me, is the concept of British 'citizens'. You can only be a citizen of a country if you can pledge allegiance to the country. In the UK we have to pledge allegiance to the monarch ( and their heirs, god help us ) which makes us subjects. As a Welshman you're in a different position ( not being part of the UK - 'The United Kingdom of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland'. No mention of Wales ) in that you're actually a member of a vassal state. Charles pledged himself ( and the people of Wales ) as a vassal to his Mum during his investiture. Complicated? Barmy if you ask me
